Our application process will consist of questions about your organization’s mission, what initiative this grant might fund, and how it would impact your organization, community, and cause as a whole. We can’t wait to hear about the wonderful things you’re doing in your community and how we can help.

At the Bell Charitable Foundation we believe in the powerful union of people and technology. That’s why it is our mission to advance the common good through investment in organizations that actively champion economic and social mobility, advancements in technology, improvements in health and well-being, and environmental sustainability. The Bell Charitable Foundation provides an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to expand their programs and operations beyond what was previously possible.
Eligibility requirements
The Bell Charitable Foundation funds organizations that are making an impact in one of our four pillars. Our pillars are:

Economic & Social Mobility
We partner with nonprofits committed to ending poverty and promoting economic success. Individuals and families deserve the dignity to influence his or her environment and personal outcomes, and the opportunities to move between social strata.

Health and Wellbeing
Everyone deserves to have a healthy life, regardless of ability, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or income. At BCF, we strive to support partnerships that promote access to quality care and change the outcomes for our neighbors in need.

Access to Technology
Technology has unlocked new frontiers for our world, and at BCF we believe in providing access to tech education and resources to all, so that our technological advancements are equitable and available for all.

Environmental Sustainability
BCF strives to protect the long-term productivity and health of resources to meet future economic and social needs. We support nonprofits that act on the importance of environmental sustainability and the effect it has on future outcomes.

Projects that intend to diminish the harm made to the earth and nature in our communities, or improve access to nature spaces.
2025 Impact Area: Green Space Access and Cleanliness
The Bell Charitable Foundation expects the organizations to which it provides funding to hold themselves out as organizations that do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, marital status, military/veteran status, gender identity and expression, genetic information, or any other basis protected by local, state, or federal law.
Eligible entities must be U.S.-based, tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations as defined in the Internal Revenue Code.
Due to regulatory considerations and the Foundation’s funding focus, the following entities and activities are not eligible for funding from The Bell Charitable Foundation:
- Nonprofit organizations without a current 501(c)(3) exempt status
- Political, labor, and fraternal organizations
- Religious organizations without a secular community designation
- Individuals
- Individual sports teams and sports tournaments
- Trips and travel
- Contests
- Festivals and parades
- Advertising
- Tickets to events
Grant application and reporting requirements
The Bell Charitable Foundation reviews applications quarterly. The Foundation is supporting nonprofit organizations geographically where altafiber and its entities have a significant presence.
After funding, The Bell Charitable Foundation would like to receive periodic updates on the progress of the program and will work with organizations regarding timing. This will include metrics, photos and feedback from those impacted to gauge the impact made from our grants.
All of these details will be included in our Funding Agreement which will be signed by all involved parties upon receiving funds.
Grant Applications Timeline
Spring and Fall 2025:
- Spring: Health & Wellbeing and Technology. See Impact Areas above
- March 17-28 – LOI submission.
- April 11 – LOI decisions will be shared on or before this date. If approved, application link and instructions will be shared.
- April 14 – Spring Application opens for Grant Request Submission.
- May 2 – All Spring grant applications due at midnight local time.
- Please be sure to select the correct Pillar Focus Area on your application, as this is how we filter through submissions. ONLY Health & Wellbeing and Technology grants will be reviewed this cycle.
- First two weeks of June – Funding decisions will be announced
- Fall: Economic & Social Mobility and Sustainability. See Impact Areas above.
- August 18-29 – LOI submission.
- September 12 – LOI decisions will be shared on or before this date. If approved, application link and instructions will be shared.
- September 15 – Spring Application opens for Grant Request Submission.
- October 3– All Spring grant applications due at midnight local time.

- Determine the best time of year for your organization to apply, based on the schedule above. If you have questions about which pillar you might fall under, please email bcf@altafiber.com.
- Submit a Letter of Intent based on the instructions below. LOIs will be reviewed based on the above schedule.
- Please note:
- Submissions should be 1-2 pages
- LOIs should be submitted via email to BCF@altafiber.com with a subject of “LOI – name of organization”
- Please do not submit LOIs to any other altafiber contact you might have, as they will not be considered or approved.
- LOI should include
- Program Executive Summary (including organization’s mission)
- Requested Dollar Amount
- Background of Community Need for this program
- Number of People Served Annually (including demographic and geographic information) and Specific Impact you’ve seen as a result of your services
- Please note:
- LOI decisions will be shared on or before the date above. If approved, application link and instructions will be shared.
- Application will then open for Grant Request Submission and be due according to the schedule above.
